Boy, time flies! Can't believe it's been so long since I last posted what was going on here at the Cedar Chest. We've participated in our first "Cruisin' the Coast Shop Hop" in February, celebrated our one-year birthday in March, and are planning another mini shop-hop in June. And, of course, September brings us the first ever "Quilt Across Texas" during the entire month. We've had such a good time and plans are in the works for even more...
I finally had a chance to sit down and do some sewing this past weekend. What a great time I had! There's just something about getting the creative juices flowing that relieves stress and just puts a smile on my face.
I know you experience the same thing. Isn't that fun?
The weather has been wonderful, but we really need some rain. So, saying a few prayers for that. And it's that time of the year that students are taking exams and winding down yet another year. I've got a freshman in high school and a senior in college.....which brings me back to my initial thought. Boy, time flies!
So, until next time....happy stitching!

Lots to be "Thankful" For!
As we approach this time of year, I try to stop for just a few minutes and think about all the things I am thankful for. This particular year, there are so many things! I am thankful to have met many new friends here at Cedar Chest Quilt Shoppe. I appreciate the support we have received from our valued customers. And what beautiful creations we have seen! I am thankful for my great employees....Earlene (or as most of you know...Mom), Ginni, and Robin. And I can't forget Dawn (my office manager at Graff & Co)! I'm thankful that my father is so supportive and talented and can build new cabinets on a moment's notice! Ha! I am thankful to work in such a beautiful environment....the fabrics and color only add to the restored beauty of this historic building.
But, even more importantly, I'm thankful for those who keep us safe...past, present, and future. I'm blessed with great friends, and I'm especially thankful for my wonderful family...my husband Rick, and my two sons, Cade and Matthew.
There is lots to be thankful for. Here's wishing you and yours a wonderful "Thanksgiving" season....

Gearing up for Fall!!!
It's hard to believe that the summer has come and gone....but oh how great the weather is outside! Nice, cooler temps make me want to sew sew sew!! And with all the beautiful new fabric collections, there is plenty to choose from.
2011 will be an exciting year! Along with celebrating our one-year anniversary in March, plans are underway to participate in 3 scheduled shop hops: "Cruisin' the Coast" Shop Hop in February, 59 Road Trip in July, and the first-ever "statewide" Quilt Across Texas in the month of September. So, mark your calendars now and get ready to have some fun!
Until then, the fall beckons us to be creative, to be thankful for our many blessings and to celebrate the holidays with friends and loved ones. Share your creativity by giving a handmade, from-the-heart, quilted project to that someone special!
Happy Stitching!

A BIG THANKS!
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate all those who attended our first 59 Road Trip Shop Hop last weekend! It was so hot, but that didn't stop you from beating the heat, gathering friends up and hitting the road. We had a blast seeing old friends and meeting new. There were positive comments about it being only 3 shops, so.....we are doing it again next year!!! Tentatively, we have scheduled it for July 29 and 30, 2011 so make sure and mark your calendars now!
We've got new fabrics in the store, and more classes scheduled. So check out our website at http://www.cedarchestquiltshoppe.com/ and the calendar to find out more. Until next time, happy stitching!

It's almost here!!!
Wow! Can't believe our first Shop Hop is only two days away! Get ready....it'll be loads of fun! And it appears that the rain will stay away. Yeah! The state has decided to re-pave Hwy 71, and....only one side of the street is finished (Note: Hwy 71 becomes Mechanic Street). So, if you run into some construction getting here, just persevere. We are right across the street from the post office, in the Marek Building (look for our beautiful copper canopy). There is ample parking on the square and side streets, so come on in. Traveling mercies to all...Be Safe! We're looking forward to seeing you.....

Fat Quarter Thangle Club
I'm so excited to have our chosen Fat Quarter Thangle Club quilt sample, the Orion Star, in the store for you to see! It's absolutely beautiful! The colors include bright caribbean blues, purples, celadon and lime greens, and pinks and fuschias. Made from Hoffman batiks, it will measure 80 X 96 when completed. And because of the many colors, there are sooo many choices for finishing borders! The starter kit is $60 and includes over 1/2 of the fabric needed to complete the quilt, plus the pattern and all Thangles necessary. Then, for the next 3 months at $10/month, you will receive the remainder of the fabric. Finally, all you will need are your borders! It's a great way to make a large bed-sized quilt for a very reasonable investment. And the FUN is free!!!! Ha!
We will also begin the "Aunt Grace Circle of Friends" Block-of-the-Month Program in September. Wow! This quilt is really something! It will definitely be a real treasure! Call us and reserve your spot in the program as interest has been high.
We are really getting geared up for our first SHOP HOP......59 Road Trip! This will be a great 2-day event...only 3 shops in 2 days. Very do-able. And lots of great prizes, door prizes, freebies, a small project, and refreshments! So plan on a little time for yourself, grab a friend, hop in the car, and "beat the heat" with us!
'Til next time....happy stitching!
